Is it summer yet?

This school year we are in school until the very last possible moment. I get out of school the 28th, and it is taking it's time to get here. I have been absent from blogging and youtubing and twittering cause I've been busy and that's okay. I want to post more of my creative content but I am hesitant but I want to change that. I will, I just have to start somewhere. Baby steps.

Take This Waltz Review

Whoops I've missed the past few days... oh well, I'm only human! I've just been doing blog a lot in April instead. Here's my review that I scrawled into my little notebook at school. Enjoy! Check out Take This Waltz on Netflix Instant! (they are not paying me for this but if they are looking for help.. I'm available!)

I adore Netflix, with all of the films and television shows they have on instant, I can easily have something to do and now have a very large Instant Queue. I have films in there that I say I'll get around to watching yet I haven't yet... (*Cough cough* Lost In Translation *cough cough*). So recently I chose to watch a film called Take This Waltz, starring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, and Luke Kirby. It follows the life of a happily married woman who toys with the idea of having an affair with her neighbor.

From that description, I thought I'd never enjoy it and feel a lack of sympathy for our main character, Margot. I wrongly assumed that I would view her as unlikable and bitchy yet as I was watching I saw how human and flawed she was, making her so relatable that I was disappointed with myself for being so judgmental.

The soundtrack of the film is so wonderful as are the shots/scenes. Sarah Polley wrote and directed the film and it hasn't left my mind since I watch it. Video Killed the Radio Star has also been stuck in my head and I just find myself thinking about the story over and over and over again. The cast is wonderful like Sarah Silverman as Margot's sister-in-law and without a doubt Seth Rogen's performance was amazing. I already love Seth Rogen and I was so concerned that he would just be the funny jerky friend in the movie that when I saw him as a half of a newly married couple with Michelle Williams, it was hard to believe. Rogen and Williams both portray the issues and struggles that a young married couple might face, extremely well. Their troubles are real and as you watch you don't think of it as being just a film. As you are captivated by this film you don't know what you want Margot to do with her life and choices.

I'm not going to give anything away as to what happens but I recommend watching it. Now.

Emerson

Yesterday I was supposed to go visit Emerson but sadly couldn't at the last minute. I didn't post anything yesterday and I am sorry. I will post something later today, probably about Veronica Mars.

Journals

I love buying journals. I love dedicating certain things for each journal, yet when it comes to actually writing things in them... I fail. I have several for lists and quotes and a daily one, and one for poetry, one for scrapbooking, one for some tweets and a black red moleskine. I love moleskines and I am so happy that I have bought one yet I am so scared to stain its pages with my ink. What will I write in it, will it be worth while? So many famous authors and people have used them, what if I can't live up to what they have created?

I know I am just over thinking things and I'm not the only one who uses journals like this. (See video here on journaling((also this was just the most recent one but i also love this one and this one !))) I should stop whining and just write but I am scared. I don't know why but I am. I come up with excuses to explain my not writing but I know it's just an act.

I just need to reread Jessica Darling and realize why I love journals.

Also I am currently reading Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and it is wonderful thus far! Reminiscent of You've Got Mail (one of my favorite films) with a bit of a twist. I love it so far.

Literary Tattoos

I never thought I would ever seriously consider getting a tattoo. I just never thought of myself as a person who could want something permanently inked on her body. I never thought there was something wrong with getting a tattoo, I just assumed I couldn't pull it off. Then the last Harry Potter film came out the summer after my freshman year. I was excited and dreading it at the same time as this marked, in my mind, the end of my childhood. While that was a hyperbole, I didn't realize it at the time and was convinced that I wanted the Deathly Hallows symbol tattooed on my wrist. My father was always against this and has come around a bit more now. I do not have any tattoos. Yet. I still love Harry Potter and would love to have a tattoo or something to honor it, but now that I have grown up, I have found myself immersed in new literature.

My sophomore year on a snowy January day, I picked up F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. I started it on a field trip and read it until the last page in my bed at the end of the night. As I cried with the last few pages I knew that this book would become one of my favorites and honestly is one of them still. I adore the very last line of the novel, "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." (I think it's on page 286 or something in one of my editions). This line I love because in my mind it goes with the whole book. The characters in Gatsby are infatuated with their pasts, Gatsby with Daisy, Daisy with her life with Gatsby or early life with Tom, Tom with his football glory days, and Nick who is hung up on what happened during the summer of 1922 in the West Egg. I just wrote a paper on this idea actually and it made me realize again my love for this novel. If I ever were to get a tattoo, it would be a literary one. The final line for Gatsby would have to be one of them, and most likely my first tattoo.

I also love T.S. Eliot as a poet, as the lost generation is something that fascinates me and I want to read everything by them so I can understand this time period that I feel a longing for. One of his lines from his poem, "The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock", has also made an impact on me. While this is one quote that is in my English teacher's room, whose room is filled with quotes, it's one I've admired since my first reading of the poem.
"Do I dare
Disturb the universe?"

For those two lines, it just makes me feel an indescribable feeling, as though I can do anything I want. I can disturb the universe, but do I dare? It reminds me to question myself sometimes but also to take risks. The final line of Gatsby reminds me to remember my past but to be able to move on from it unlike the cast of characters in the novel.

I adore literary tattoos, whether it's from Le Petit Prince, which was the first literary tattoo I had ever seen, to Harry Potter and everything in between. I'd love to get a literary tattoo one day and I hopefully will. I just have to decide whether or not to chicken out.

Mixtapes

The idea of giving someone you like a CD or playlist or tape of music that you think is really wonderful is not something new. It's been around since whenever mix tapes were first invented.(Which started in the late 60's but became popular and more personal in the 80's. Thanks Wikipedia!) Giving and receiving them are some of my favorite things to do. Maybe it's because as I compile the best songs that go with the mood I want or I know this one person will really love, it makes me so happy. I love going through and listening to each song to make sure that there is a flow. It's a lot like writing an essay, there needs to be a fluid motion throughout the mix, with a transition between the songs which can bring it all together. Mixtapes can define a certain time in your life, or make you think of a certain season, like how Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal makes me think of the bus rides during the winter of 2012-2013, or how Cast Your Fate to the Wind by the Vince Guaraldi trio makes me think of my sixteenth birthday. Music is a simply wonderful thing, as are mixtapes yet recently they seem to decline. My friends whom I've exposed this wonderful creation to have only ever heard of them but never actually made or got one. I encourage you to listen to your favorite songs in a playlist and see how they can flow together. It's trying to solve a puzzle with the pieces all jumbled up, you just need to sort them out. Just like in Stephen Chobosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower with Charlie's mixtape. I have it actually on my iPod and love the calming flow that it has as it starts and ends with Awake by The Smiths (which is an awesome song if you've never heard it, you are missing out.)

Mixtapes should not be a thing of the past, and if you ever wanted to give one to someone or get one (which is totally fine, I mean it's a mixtape, they are so cool!) Get together with a group of friends and decide you'll make one for every other week and pick each others names at random. You'll get a ton of awesome (hopefully) music on your iPod and get to be creative in a new way.

I'll post a link to my playlist for Autumn of 2012 that I made on youtube. You can use youtube or grooveshark or itunes or whatever to make a playlist of awesome music. Just keep making them, because they are so thoughtful and wonderful and awesome.

Sarah Lawrence Photos!

Today I went to Sarah Lawrence College and really loved it there! These are some pictures that I took to help remember my experience there. I am exhausted now so I think I will go and nap or watch some films or what not. But SLC was really great. (:

I felt so bad leaving Humphrey this morning! He looked so cute on my bed.
College Sign!

Admission's Building

Music Building that's haunted.

Gorgeous staircase in Music Building

They had a music library! That is just really cool!

Film/Photo/Artsy building?

An Area of Free Speech! They repaint that piece of art all the time. And they were when we walked back up the hill.

The T (tea?) house! Wish we went in!

quad area that seemed amazing

Saw this at the end of our tour. Really gorgeous place and definitely one I will consider as I apply. Now I go nap.

College Tours

*EDIT* Didn't realize this didn't post earlier! I'm sorry!

Tomorrow I will be driving to SLC (Sarah Lawrence College). It's in Bronxville. NY and from what I've read on the website, it looks like it could be a good fit. This will be my very first college tour and I am a bit nervous. I debated about not going and canceling to attend a jazz concert near where I live but I need to start visiting college. As scary as that is and while I may not know what I want to do just yet, I have to start looking for a place where I can see myself spending 4+ years there. When did I get so old?

I have a list of the colleges that I want to visit and some tours set up but I am still so scared with the price of everything that comes with college and then becoming a real adult. Luckily, MissxRojas (Rosianna) has some wonderful videos that help me feel better and calm me down about being an adult, (also that I can still watch lots of film and tv, that makes me feel better too.)

You Make Me Happy When Skies Are Grey

Today I went to the all states concert that my boyfriend was playing piano in. I adored the jazz ensemble (his part) yet (and I feel bad for saying this) got really tired in the other groups and nearly fell asleep. As I was out to dinner with his parents and sister, I had an idea for a blog post but I didn't write it down and now have forgotten it. I have now just spent a car ride home with said boyfriend and his mom and it has been so nice having him back, even if it just was briefly for an hour car ride home. So this post shall be a things I like page (like my lists from listography!)

Things that make me happy

  • opening a favorite book for the umpteeth time
  • listening to new music
  • the sound of the rain
  • kisses on my cheek
  • monthly playlists
  • arrested development
  • Ingrid Michaelson (specifically The Hat)
  • Oversized sweaters
  • the color red
  • brownie batter
  • cookie dough
  • journals
  • spending the afternoon in a bookstore
  • nutella
  • watching films
  • jtorwhatever. and kisses.
I'm sorry this post was such a cop out. I should have more time tomorrow to actually write and hopefully I will remember my idea. I might do a things I dislike post if I need to write something and I haven't yet. Girls and Boys by Ingrid Michaelson is wonderful.

That's all for now.

Happy Easter?

I cannot believe how much time has flown by since I have last written. I've recently been on a really big movie watching spree and this will continue tomorrow since we have 3 more movies to watch. I am just really happy right now. I am just so very happy. I love my true friends, books, film, and my boyfriend. JT is just simply wonderful. I love falling asleep with him on the phone and just talking or hanging out with him it's really wonderful. I just asdcfghjmkjgfdlgh. <3

I also have recently cut my hair really short and I really love it! I want to get back in to taking more pictures so hopefully I can post them on here. I've admired previous blog posts that have done that and I think I'm ready to try my own posts like that. My computer is broken which can be a reason for the lack of posts but hopefully that will be resolved soon!

Snow, snow and more snow.

We were just recently hit with a huge blizzard, and not like the ones from Dairy Queen. It was Nemo, or as my state likes to name our blizzards Charlie/Charlotte. The snow is taller than me and the icicles are melting causing my house to leak. Woohoo. I typically love the snow and what not but right now, not so much. My laptop is broken and I have to share my mother's which is not a fun thing to do. I don't understand why we have to shovel when we're in a state of emergency and are not allowed to drive on the roads...

Yet with all the snow and whatnot, we have gotten some days off, basically we have the longest February break ever after loosing it from the Hurricane earlier last year. I have recently become tech-savvy despite having my laptop break (it wasn't charging but no worries- it's being fixed!) It is very late right now and I hate how short this is but I will write more soon!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello all my blogger readers!

I am sorry I haven't written anything in such a long time, I have been sick and with the holidays it's been busy and crazy and excuses excuses. It is 2013! This year is going to be a great year for me, I'm going to make it happen. One of the thing I really want to do this year is blog more, I think having a blog is a great thing so this year I will be trying to write a meaningful post once a week. I want to write longer pieces and things that are more thought-out. I also want to use my youtube channel more and upload more videos because  think that will be fun. I have so many different ideas planned I just don't know where to start.

I really want to do BEDA this year and am already stock piling ideas for that and I want to talk about music and random shit like that. I am currently listening to Rachel Whitehurst's playlist and it's SO GREAT. Go click that link seriously. But I want to do so much in 2013 so I think I'll start by cleaning my room.

Have a great day. (:
